Taste of London 2017: The Festive Edition

Ever since I found out that I was officially moving to the UK, I have been looking for great restaurants to visit and food festivals to participate in. I am a firm believer in learning about a country through its culture and especially its food (well, no surprises there right!).

When I found out about Taste of London happening in November, I was beyond excited. That was exactly what I was looking for !

November couldn’t come soon enough and in spite of the -1 degrees showing up on my phone this morning, I couldn’t be happier to head to London for this food festival.

What’s Taste of London?

Taste of London is the ultimate showcase of the capital’s best restaurants, top chefs and leading food and drink brands. The Festive Edition happening from November 16th to November 19th is a little sister to the summer festival usually happening in June.

Tobacco Dock, the venue of the festive edition was literally transformed into a foodie wonderland. As I said in the Instagram post below, I really spent the day in foodie heaven 😀

5 Awesome things to do at the Taste of London

Of course, they are more than 5 things to do at this amazing event. I am just taking you through what I enjoyed the day doing.

  1. First Champagne and then everything else… 🍾

As soon as you set foot in Tobacco Dock, you are welcomed by glasses of champagne, courtesy of Laurent-Perrier; the official champagne partner of the festive edition of Taste of London.  Your options? Either purchase the New Champagne Bundle which includes a glass of champagne Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée on arrival OR purchase a glass (La Cuvée Brut: 10 pounds; La Cuvée Rosé 14 pounds) at their club house.

  1. Discover a different kind of dark chocolate 🍫

I love love LOVE chocolate however dark chocolate not so much… When I visited the Green & Black’s “boutique”, they were showcasing their new Velvet Edition collection of dark chocolate and I must admit that I was a little hesitant to try.

But as a foodie who enjoys eating and tasting out her comfort zone, I completely went for it. It was not only sumptuously smooth yet rich and delectable. I was sold when the man behind the stand stated that the beans they used were from Ghana 🙂

  1. Visit the AEG Taste Theatre 👩‍🍳  👨‍🍳

Not only can you dive into all kinds of food during the event, but you can also watch London’s hottest chefs at the AEG Taste Theatre in association with Etihad Airways.

From 1 to 1:30pm, I watched 2 of the Inflight Chefs of Etihad Airways in an interactive cooking sessions in which they shared their experiences and what it was like to be cooking up in the air 😉

Taste of London 2017: The Festive Edition

From 3 to 3:30pm, I came back to watch Chef Ollie Dabbous of the Henrietta Hotel. As Christmas is around the corner, he walked us through a gravy recipe…pretty simple you might say? But with a Chef, it makes all the difference.

  1. Eat like it’s nobody’s business

After having spent a good 2 hours split in between walking around to evaluate ALL my options and the cooking shows, I decided it was TIME to dive in some FOOD 😀

1st stop was the Jamavar stand…

…A Michelin-star restaurant serving fine Indian cuisine. I picked their Andhra Podi Prawns (battered tiger prawns, red chilli powder, spice and lentil powder). It was absolutely good…flavourful & spicy up to my taste.

2nd stop was at Les 110 de Taillevent…

…A restaurant serving fine French cuisine. I love seafood and couldn’t help myself but going for the Scallops on their menu: scottish scallops, butternut and cider sauce.

3rd stop was at BAO

…a popular restaurant in London serving Taiwanese inspired dishes. I had their Fried Chicken Bao: soy milk marinated chicken, Sichuan mayo, kimchi and coriander.

  1. Visit the Drambuie Collins Lounge 🥃

Before arriving at the event, I had done my foodie homework on Instagram and I knew I had to taste the Drambuie Collins cocktail….and truth be told it did not disappoint one bit.

It was everything you could wish for in a cocktail : the refreshing taste, the right level of sweetness and alcohol from the Drambuie ‘aged scotch whisky heather honey herbs & spice’.

Taste of London 2017: The Festive Edition

And of course, one thing I didn’t add but that you should most certainly do is shopping…from the producer’s market to both galleries; you can seriously purchase so many goodies that will make your Taste of London experience even more memorable.
